Commonly Asked Questions

Compatibility

1. Does The Magnifier work with all Windows Applications?

Yes.

Display

The Magnifier Operation

3. Can The Magnifier do full screen magnification?

Yes. You can use the Alt-Z keyboard shortcut to toggle between the Full Screen mode of operation and the Windowed mode.

4. Can I see the complete list shortcut keys?

Yes, use the keyboard shortcut Alt-K to open the help that shows the Complete List of Shortcut Keys.

5. How do I view the Cursor in the Magnifier?

The Magnifier Cursor indicator is selectable in menu, or you can use the keyboard shortcut Alt-C to toggle the display of the cursor within The Magnifier window.

6. In Full Screen mode, why does the cursor appear twice (different sizes)?

This is a result of the design of The Magnifier. The Full Screen mode synchronizes the magnified window relative to the underlying display, and the system's display of the cursor is unmodified. You can toggle the display of the magnified cursor (e.g. from the menu, or using Alt-C). For presentations or other uses, you can also toggle the display of the system mouse cursor using Alt-G. For best results, you may wish to display a magnified cursor theme (available in Mouse Properties | Pointers) and disable the magnified cursor display. Systems with higher quality display subsystems (video adapter/video memory/monitor) may reduce the separation between the actual cursor and the magnified cursor display.

7. Why does magnification point jump around so much?

This is a result of the 3 events that can position the magnification point, the Mouse Cursor, the Text Caret, and the Keyboard Focus. The Text Caret and Dialogs & Keyboard Focus options are available from the Advanced Menu. You can toggle the Text and Keyboard tracking On and Off using Alt-J. Depending on these settings and your actions within Windows, the magnification point will adjust and track these events, which will override the normal mouse cursor magnification point. You can refer to the Advanced Notes for additional information.

System

8. How Much Memory does The Magnifier use while running?

This depends on your screen display colors, Windows version, and the current configuration. Normal operation requires less than 100K RAM.

9. Does The Magnifier require any special drivers?

No. The Magnifier works with all standard Windows drivers. Unlike other magnification products that must install at a very low level, The Magnifier was designed to work as a standard windows application, and will operate seamlessly with any Windows system. Because the product relies almost exclusively on the display subsystem, the best, most up-to-date drivers for your video adapter is highly recommended. Using a higher quality video adapter (with larger amounts of high-speed video RAM) in your system will provide smoother & cleaner operation.
