What is the IMG Personal License?
The IMG Personal License (IPL) is a system based personal/individual license that provides full access to available IMG Software Products and all their capabilities at an affordable price, but does not include access to IMG Technical Support. It does include Website Account Access with System Based License, Software by Download, Website Support and License restore, with annual renewal option. An IMG Personal License will license any supported IMG Product as available per Platform while account active. For individual / non-commercial use only.
Personal Licenses do not include IMG Product Support Services
A Personal Licensee can only obtain support via the online support knowledge base, help, and other published resources. Personal Licensees can upgrade to a Professional License by purchasing IMG Product Support. Personal Licenses are system based, and are managed through the individual's personal Build-A-Board.com account. Individuals often want the benefits of IMG Software, but cannot justify the expense of a Professional License, and do not need or want any type of support. They are often just looking for the functionality at an affordable price. In order to benefit all types of end-users, IMG has created the IMG Personal License as a simple, affordable, and straightforward way to access various IMG software products. This low-cost, personal license is not supported at the same level as a Professional License, but it does provide full access and all the capabilities of the software to individuals. This type of license also provides the additional benefit of allowing access to multiple IMG products.
Basic and Standard
There are 2 types of IPL - Basic, which covers a group of IMG software products, and Standard, which in addition to all the Basic titles, also includes a personal license to My-T-Soft® and all its features and capabilities. See below for license / product groups.
Additional Device License
An IPL provides 3 device activations (licenses for devices) - typically one for your desktop, a laptop, and a mobile device. If you have additional devices, you can add Additional Device Licenses with this option, allowing for more devices to be licensed from the same account.
In order to retrieve your system license, your system needs internet access to retrieve the unique system license from Build-A-Board.com. Once licensed, your system has a permanent license for running the software, and does not need internet access again (unless you rebuild or restore the system and need to relicense the system). You can only retrieve a system license while your Build-A-Board.com account is active. Your Build-A-Board.com account has an annual renewal period. Your account will be accessible, and some features may be available even if your account is inactive, but you will not be able to license any system if inactive. You may renew or re-enable an account by purchasing additional licenses.
The IMG Personal License is an annually renewable option to permanently license a system allowing access to available products under this license. You receive 3 system activations (e.g. your desktop, your laptop) and may purchase additional system activations. Once a license is granted to a system, it cannot be moved or marked inactive. If you constantly rebuild systems, or purchase a new computer, and find the account is inactive or there are no more system activations available, you will want to consider the professional license, which provides a license key and serial number, and does not have the same limitations of the IMG Personal License. This IPL is a balance aimed at allowing individuals full access to the software at a reasonable price. We cannot make unlimited system licenses available, as this does not align with personal use, and could be abused. We also cannot allow an extended period, because at some point you will buy a new system, and you will have funded the industry, but we would have to provide updated and maintained software while receiving no revenue.
